SNEVic Workshop to support Nepali Engineers - 2016

By Hari Pandey on January 6, 2025

Nepali Engineers in Victoria made significant strides on February 21, 2016, by convening to discuss matters of importance to them. This gathering of professional Nepali Engineers was for a workshop program titled "Nepali Engineers' Challenges in Australia and Path to Career Progression." The Society of Nepali Engineers in Victoria (SNEVic) organized the event at the Darebin Intercultural Centre, Preston. SNEVic is a professional network aimed at uniting and supporting Nepali Engineers residing in Victoria.

The purpose of this workshop was to address the engineering job market in Australia, professional challenges within the workplace, and strategies for building successful careers for Nepali Engineers. It also provided an excellent networking opportunity for both new and experienced engineers to share knowledge and experiences. Senior members of SNEVic presented real-world insights into these challenges. The program comprised three distinct sessions.

The program was hosted by Mr Hari Pandey, SNEVic program coordinator and attended by engineering graduates, professional engineers, community leaders, media personalities and business leaders.

The inaugural workshop session, "Engineering Job Market in Australia and Job Opportunities," presented by Shree Pant and Madhu Pokharel, focused on various engineering job sectors and offered practical advice on securing employment in the industry.

The second session, "Nepali Engineers' Workplace Challenges in Australia," led by Ranjan Vaidya, addressed critical but often overlooked issues such as cultural differences, social standards, language barriers, and essential soft skills needed to succeed in the workplace. This session provided valuable insights through real-life examples and experiences.

The final session on career management, led by Jog Limbu, showcased three exemplary career progression cases. These examples inspired attendees to draw motivation for their own careers. Each workshop session was well-received with great enthusiasm.

Senior members of SNEVic also provided one-on-one career guidance to several graduates, many of whom expressed interest in potential opportunities. SNEVic plans to continue offering career guidance and establish mentoring programs to support engineers in need.

Mr. Shesh Ghale, an accomplished engineer and entrepreneur, shared his struggles, challenges, and successes as a keynote speaker. His story serves as an inspiration, encouraging attendees to face challenges head-on and strive for success.

Nepalese Engineers have achieved notable success in Australia. SNEVic aims to bring together expertise and create a professional network where knowledge and ideas can be shared. With hundreds of registered members across Victoria, SNEVic plans to formalize its registration and expand its network further.

We extend our gratitude to all participants for their support throughout the program, and to the Nepalese community for promoting the event. Special thanks to Mr. Shesh Ghale for sharing his experience, the Nepalese Association of Victoria (NAV) for providing the venue, and Nepali Times Melbourne and MNTV for spreading our message. We look forward to continued collaboration to support Nepali engineers and enhance the Nepali community in Victoria.
